Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., snapped during Attorney General William Barr’s testimony on Thursday — and what he said isn’t safe for children.
Barr appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Graham chairs, to be questioned about his interpretation of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation on Russian election meddling in 2016.
What he said was described as “savage,” “blistering,” and “expletive-filled.”
Mueller found there was no collusion, Graham explained in his opening statement welcoming Barr.
“For me?” Graham said. “It is over.”
Things got heated quickly during the South Carolina Republican’s opening statement. Graham’s fiery speech on Mueller’s report included accusations against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, curse words, and a clear defense of both Barr and Trump’s actions.
It left the mainstream media furious.
MSNBC’s Brian Williams interrupted his cable news network’s coverage of Graham’s statement to “fact check” the chairman, saying that technically the report didn’t mention the word collusion.
“The report says collusion is not a thing they considered,” Williams said. “It doesn’t exist in the federal code.”
Of course, the report established that there’s no evidence Trump and his team conspired with Russia to aid it’s 2016 election meddling. It just didn’t specifically say collusion… because that’s not a legal term.
CNN was also mad about Graham’s statement. “That’s a disgrace!” CNN’s Jason King exclaimed when Graham said he read most of — but not every word of — the 400-page report.
What Graham said even had him apologizing to any children that were watching the proceedings.
Graham read text messages between anti-Trump FBI agents working for Mueller out loud — including one that called the president a “f***ing idiot” — before acknowledging that the hearing was being covered live on television.
“Sorry to the kids out there,” Graham said.
