Just when the political world thought Joe Biden would finally leave his basement…
Biden, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, has been accused of confining himself to home instead of campaigning during the virus outbreak.
There’s been rampant speculation that it’s part of a plan to limit Biden’s frequent gaffes, which have some questioning his mental fitness.
But surely we’d see Biden in action when it was time to debate incumbent President Donald Trump, right?
Well, not so fast…
It looks like the media is laying the groundwork for Biden to limit — and perhaps even skip — presidential debates.
It’s well known that left-leaning media establishments like the New York Times are practically wings of the Democratic Party. They’re used to defend candidates and even float liberal proposals.
That’s why a New York Times article by columnist Thomas Friedman is raising eyebrows this week.
Friedman laid out a roadmap that could allow Biden to avoid debating Trump.
In his article, Friedman said that Biden shouldn’t debate Trump unless two conditions are met:
- Trump would have to release his 2016-2018 tax returns. It’s another attempt by the left to use backdoors to get at Trump’s taxes. Of course, we already know that for 2017 and 2018, Trump accepted no salary as president.
- There would be fact-checkers on hand that would report nearly in real-time (they’d issue a “report” 10 minutes before the end of the debate). Biden has certainly made plenty of misleading statements himself. Every candidate does. But if Trump says something misleading, shouldn’t Biden have the mental agility to call him out on it right from the stage? That’s typically how a debate works…
Make no mistake about it, putting these conditions on debates would be absolutely unprecedented.
But these are unprecedented times. It’s hard to imagine a candidate in recent history who has been shielded by his own party more than Biden.
There has been a concerted effort to keep him out of the spotlight, and Friedman’s article seems like the latest attempt.
But it’s time for the American people to start asking … what exactly are Biden’s supporters so afraid of?
