And the liberal leader could be on his way out.
Wednesday evening, the California Secretary of State’s office confirmed that a vote to replace Newsom will be held.
More than 1.5 million signatures were gathered in pursuit of the recall. Only 43 voters later withdrew their signature.
Critics have a bone to pick with the governor on many fronts — from his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his handling of mail-in voting during the 2020 election, and his handling of the wildfires that have plagued the state over the past few years.
A colleague of Newsom’s — state Assemblyman James Gallagher — insists it’s time for Newsom to go.
“It’s just been one thing after another with this governor and finally he’s going to be held accountable,” he said.

And he hasn’t forgotten the way Newsom handled the devastating wildfires.
“I represent Paradise, a town that was decimated by a wildfire in 2018,” Gallagher said. “We have kept saying that we need to put more investment into fuel reduction. These fuels have built up in our forests over the decades, mostly because we’ve got rid of any kind of forestry management in California.”
“The governor keeps telling everybody that he’s putting all kinds of money into wildfire prevention. And as it turns out, it’s been a fraction of what he’s been stating to the California public.”
“This hits really close to home for me.”
And of course who could forget when he was publicly outed for his French Laundry dinner while his state was on lockdown — that he ordered!
