Ohio Sen. and Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show Wednesday night – and he dropped a bombshell on Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
Harris’ internal polls have leaked to former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign through mainstream media journalist whispers.
What they show is very bad news for the Harris ticket.
“You know how this works, but I’ll sorta… give some insight into this for your viewers and listeners. Okay, so: I have said publicly – I’ve been attacked by this from the left,” Vance explained, referencing comments about Harris’ poor internal polling made in August.
Vance was blasted at the time over the reported leak. He explained to Carlson – and the viewers – how he obtained the numbers.
“I said, look, Kamala’s own internal polls are not very good right now. And, of course, the lefties say: Well, JD Vance is the VP candidate for the Republicans. No one in Kamala Harris’ campaign is talking to him,” he continued.
“And that’s right, by the way. Kamala’s Harris’ campaign is not talking to me.”
“But they are talking to journalists,” Vance explained. “And those journalists want insights into what’s going on with the Republican ticket.”
“They want to see our internal numbers,” he said. “And [in exchange] the journalists are telling me that Kamala Harris doesn’t like her numbers.”
“These journalists are telling me that our campaign does like their numbers. There’s a consistency of story here.”
Tucker Carlson then blasted these mainstream journalists as political operatives – not truthtellers.
“The journalists act is kind of like this, an information exchange,” Carlson said while they both compared the profession to intelligence operatives.
“Journalists are to electoral politics what the CIA is to international relations,” Vance said, laughing.
“It’s totally true,” Carlson quipped. “Just like in polling, people think: ‘Oh, polls are designed to measure what people think – journalists are designed to report what happened.’ No, journalists are players in the political system. And they do not disclose that to their readers.”
“It’s interesting, they play the role of covert diplomats between the campaigns,” Carlson said.
Vance said what is happening right now is comparable to what the Trump campaign saw in 2016.
“In 2016, what the journalists were telling you was that Hillary Clinton’s campaign in confident,” Vance said. “But some of them, like [former President] Bill Clinton were not very confident.”
Now, “they’re saying, in 2024, Kamala Harris is feeling a little bit rough on her chances.”
Vance said he was very confident – and so was the entire Trump campaign.
“I think we’re in a good spot,” he said. “But, you can’t take this stuff for granted. And, by the way, I think this goes both ways.”
In the end, Vance said the important thing is that his campaign has to “do our job” to persude voters and knock on doors, despite what the Kamala Harris internal polls are showing – and called on supporters to get involved.
