The House Judiciary Committee released a report Friday slamming the Biden-Harris administration over their partnership with United Nations agencies to allow migrants to “sidestep the southern border” through a program called the Safe Mobility Initiative — a stunning scandal just days before the November election.
The House report details $81.7 million in U.S. taxpayer funding directed to UN agencies operating “Safe Mobility Offices” in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador since June 2023.
According to committee data, these offices have processed 66,758 referrals for potential U.S. resettlement, with 18,154 individuals already relocated to the United States.
“Rather than fix the actual problem of illegal immigration, the Biden-Harris Administration engaged in misdirection—teaming up with open-borders bureaucrats at the United Nations to allow aliens to bypass the southwest border altogether,” the committee report states.
A White House spokesperson called the report “an absolutely absurd misrepresentation,” and claimed that border “encounters have dropped more than 55%” following recent executive actions.
The House report raises specific concerns about security vetting of new migrants, citing an October case where officials reportedly approved several members of the Tren de Aragua gang before they were stopped at the border.
It also questions the program’s staffing, noting only 14% of program employees are U.S. citizens.
The initiative’s UN funding has increased significantly, with UNHCR’s budget rising from $16.6 million in 2023 to $50.5 million in 2024.
The committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-O.H., indicated it will continue investigating the controversial program.
