Was former Vice President Kamala Harris drunk when she praised violent protesters in Minneapolis during a recent interview?
Harris was sharply criticized after a video surfaced showing her praising protesters in Minneapolis who used whistles and smartphones to harrass federal immigration enforcement operations.
The remarks came during a late February conversation with American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten. Speaking about recent anti-ICE activity in Minneapolis, Harris made no attempt to hide her enthusiasm.
“In Minneapolis, just look at what we’ve been seeing. It’s so fantastic!” Harris exclaimed. “People coming out with their whistles, their smart phones and videotaping, and, you know, with perfect strangers and aiding perfect strangers! It’s been so beautiful to see!”
“When people band together, and we remember the strength of community, and we remember the strength of coalition and the power in, you know, it’s cliché, the power in the numbers, right?” Harris said. “The power of numbers — like that’s part of just that age. We teach that to kids, right?”

Minneapolis had been at the center of controversy over immigration enforcement since January, when ICE and Border Patrol agents shot Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were interfering with enforcement operations. Border czar Tom Homan announced an end to Operation Metro Surge on February 12, after Minnesota Democrats agreed to allow state and local police cooperate with ICE.
The comments are not Harris’s first brush with anti-enforcement rhetoric. In 2018, she was captured on video chanting “Up, up with education. Down, down with deportation” at a Los Angeles parade. In 2020, she promoted a bail fund that freed rioters, sex offenders, and men accused of domestic violence during the height of the Black Lives Matter riots.
Harris is widely considered a leading 2028 Democratic presidential candidate.
