Vice President Kamala Harris is facing a barrage of criticism following her debate performance against former President Donald Trump, with fact-checkers and political opponents highlighting several inaccurate statements made during the high-stakes face-off.
One of the most glaring missteps came when Harris claimed there are no U.S. military troops stationed in a combat zone.
New footage going viral shows Harris saying, “There is not one member of the military who is in active duty in a combat zone in any war zone around the world for the first time this century.”
Thousands of U.S. troops remain in dangerous areas in Iraq and along the Syrian border — and some watching the debate took a live video of them reacting in their tent to the claim.

Harris also faced serious criticism that Trump left the country with “the worst unemployment since the Great Depression.”
While unemployment did peak at 14.8% during the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, it had fallen to 6.3% by the time Trump left office in January 2021.
Adding to the controversy is the revelation that Karen Dunn, a top lawyer defending Google in its antitrust trial against the U.S. government, is also a key adviser to the Harris campaign and helped prepare the Harris team for the debate.
Jeff Hauser, executive director at the Revolving Door Project, blasted the conflict of interest.
“One imagines her stature in Harris world has only gone up after the debate – which could be concerning if she’s ever negotiating a potential settlement with the Justice Department under Harris,” he said.
Republican critics have seized on these issues.
The GOP-led House Judiciary Committee has demanded a briefing from Attorney General Merrick Garland on how the Department of Justice is addressing potential conflicts of interest related to Dunn’s involvement in the Google trial.
As the election draws closer, Harris’ climb in the polls has stalled. There’s a virtual tie between Harris and Trump, which means every misstep and controversy — and military video — has the potential to sway undecided voters.
