Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been called a socialist throughout much of his career, adored by American liberals below the northern border.
But it looks like Trudeau has been embracing capitalism after all.
Trudeau is caught up in a disturbing scandal involving a $900 million deal and big payouts made to his family.

Trudeau is facing an ethics investigation after an organization known as WE Charity was awarded a $900 million (all amounts in Canadian currency) no-bid contract to administer something known as the Canada Student Services Grant. The grant provides funding for young people to help their communities with service projects related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Canadian reporters soon learned that WE Charity had paid large sums of money to direct members of Trudeau’s family.
From 2016 to 2020, Trudeau’s mother received $250,000 for speaking engagements on behalf of WE Charity … and his brother pulled in another cool $32,000.
Canada’s federal ethics commissioner announced earlier this month that it was investigating Trudeau in light of concerns over the WE Charity contract. And that contract has now been altogether canceled.
Scandal has dogged Trudeau throughout his time as prime minister. But he’d been adept at keeping any of it from sticking to him.
The country’s ethics commissioner has found that Tudeau violated ethics rules on two previous occasions. And Trudeau admitted last year to having worn “blackface,” on multiple occasions after infamous photos of the the incidents surfaced.
Still, those incidents seem to have been forgotten and forgiven.
This time may be different. Significant amounts of money changed hands and the fairly widespread coverage of the scandal may indicate that the Canadian press — and the Canadian people — are losing patience with Trudeau.
If that’s the case, it’s about time.
