Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn., stopped describing himself as a progressive last year after witnessing the anti-Semitism on the far Left.
Now, Fetterman has broken with more mainstream Democrats, too.
On Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris repeatedly criticized the Israeli military’s proposed plan to invade Rafah, a city in southern Gaza. Before long, Harris faced a harsh backlash from Fetterman.
During an appearance on ABC News, Harris faced a question about President Joe Biden’s plans for the aftermath of Israel’s proposed invasion in Rafah. Harris said, “I am ruling out nothing.”
Harris described the possible invasion as too costly for the civilians living nearby.
“We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake,” Harris said. “Let me tell you something: I have studied the maps. There’s nowhere for those folks to go.”
Fetterman hit back. He argued that Hamas could end the war by standing down and returning the remaining 130 hostages.
“Hard disagree,” Fetterman tweeted, above a screenshot of the ABC News piece. “Israel has the right to prosecute Hamas to surrender or to be eliminated. Hamas owns every innocent death for their cowardice hiding behind Palestinian lives,” Fetterman said.
Fetterman made a similar comment after remarks by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
“Hard disagree. Israel shouldn’t face isolation when Hamas terrorists are still present and hiding behind civilians. Hamas owns this humanitarian catastrophe and must surrender, release the hostages NOW, or be eliminated,” Fetterman said on Twitter, attaching a screenshot of Blinken’s remarks.
Both Harris and Blinken were simply reiterating the policy of President Joe Biden’s administration. Harris said on ABC, “Well, we’re going to take it one step at a time, but we’ve been very clear in terms of our perspective on whether or not that should happen.”
