Former President Joe Biden and his family happily announced yesterday that he completed a weekslong course of radiation therapy to treat the aggressive Stage 4 prostate cancer that spread to his bones.

Biden, 82, has been getting treatment at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia and celebrated the milestone by taking part in the traditional ringing of the bell, a ritual that marks the end of treatment for a cancer patient.

“Rung the Bell!” Ashley Biden, the former president’s daughter, wrote in a social media post with a video of her father clanging the silver bell as hospital staff cheered him on.

📺 WOW! Today President @JoeBiden rang the bell at Penn Medicine — new photos and videos shared by Ashley Biden capture the incredible moment.

Ashley said her dad has been “so damn brave” during his treatment. It even looks like he brought flowers for his doctor — which is so… pic.twitter.com/Mhh8XDZUIP

“Thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine,” Ashley continued.

“We are so grateful.”

A Biden spokesperson confirmed in a statement to CBS News that he had completed several weeks worth of radiation therapy at the renowned Philadelphia-area hospital.

Biden was seen in public over the weekend for the first time since his office announced the radiation therapy.

Biden stepped out to attend evening Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, a Roman Catholic church in Greenville, Del., he has frequented for decades.

“Dad has been so damn brave throughout his treatment,” Ashley wrote in a separate Instagram post Monday, including a photo of herself alongside Joe, former first lady Jill Biden and two of the ex-president’s grandchildren.

“Grateful,” she added.

In May, Biden was diagnosed an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

The disease was characterized by his doctors as high-grade, with a Gleason score of nine out 10, though hormone-sensitive — allowing for management through medication and radiation.

“Cancer touches us all,” Biden said on X, back in May.

“Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

In August, he had skin cancer removed from his forehead and was seen publicly with a large bandage.

Biden, his family, and his team did not confirm if he will undergo any other procedures or forms of treatment for his cancer diagnosis.
