On Wednesday, President Joe Biden accepted an endorsement from North America’s Building Trades Unions, and he made a blistering campaign speech. At least, he tried to.
At one point, Biden accidentally read the teleprompter instructions. At the climax of this speech, Biden said the word “pause” instead of actually pausing.
Biden concluded, “Folks, imagine what we can do next. Four more years. Pause.”
You heard that correctly. Critics compared Biden to Ron Burgundy, the braindead character from Anchorman known for reading teleprompter instructions too literally. At one point in the movie, Burgundy pronounces a question mark instead of recognizing it as a typing error.
A Fox News headline even described Biden’s remark as his “Ron Burgundy moment.”

Biden’s pre-selected audience responded to his mix-up by chanting, “Four more years!”
Biden devoted much of the speech to bashing former President Donald Trump.
“He looks down on us. I’m not joking. Think about it,” Biden alleged on Wednesday. “Think about the guys you grew up with that you’d like to get in the corner and just give him a straight left. I’m not suggesting you hit the president. But we all know those guys growing up… And, by the way, remember when he was trying to deal with COVID? He said just inject a little bleach in your veins. He missed; it all went to his hair.
“Donald Trump is incapable of running anything,” Sean McGarvey, president of NABTU, said Wednesday. “God help us if he gets anywhere near the White House in the future.”
Trump, for his part, has sought some support from organized labor. He met with the Teamsters union earlier this year.
“Usually a Republican wouldn’t get that endorsement,” Trump said. “But in my case it’s different because I’ve employed thousands of Teamsters, and I thought we should come over and pay our respects.”
