Speculation on presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate has been heating up – and he’s finally addressing the rumors that former First Lady Michelle Obama is under consideration.
Yes, Biden said.
In fact, she’s the frontrunner that he’d select “in a heartbeat.”
Biden told local Pittsburgh station KDKA that Michelle only needs to ask to be his running mate – but doubts she wants the job.
“Where are you in naming that running mate, and will you commit that that person would be a person of color?” KDKA’s Jon Delano asked during a remote Monday interview.
“No, I’ll commit to to it being a woman. I think it’s important that, uh, my administration look like the public, look like the nation,” Biden replied.
“And, uh, there will be… I committed that there will be a woman of color on the Supreme Court.”
“Doesn’t mean there won’t be a vice president as well,” he said. “In terms of who to pick, we’re just beginning the process and we’ll shortly be announcing the committee I named to review this and begin to look through the backgrounds of the various potential nominees. And that’s just getting underway.”
“I’ve heard some speculation about Michelle Obama as vice president,” Delano said. Biden laughed in response.
“If she said to you that she’d be willing to be your running mate, would you ask her?” Delano asked.
“Oh, I’d take her in a heartbeat. She’s brilliant, she knows her way around. She’s a really fine woman,” Biden replied. “The Obamas are great friends.”
Biden later tried to downplay the rumors.

“I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again,” he added during the interview.
