Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, grabbed headlines Thursday after visiting the site of the Hamas Oct. 7 massacre in Israel.
Wearing bulletproof vests, Trump said the visit to the Israel-Hamas warzone was not political. Instead, the two said they wanted to “to bear witness” to the horrors committed by the radical Islamic terror group.
Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana accompanied them during their tour of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, where 64 civilians were brutally massacred and 19 kidnapped.
They later met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Thursday night.
The two also had meetings with families of hostages and presented Israeli soldiers and border police that came to the kibbutz’s defense with medals.
“Thank you for sharing these stories with us,” Kushner reportedly said. “It’s very humbling for me to be with you, with the heroic act that you did. What you did had made a massive difference.”
“It’s important to see with one’s own eyes the lingering effects of the barbaric and unspeakable acts of October 7,” Kushner later wrote on social media. “We met with families of those that were kidnapped, including some still in Gaza. We met with several political leaders who are committed to building lasting solutions to intractable problems.”
“With determination, trust, pragmatism and creativity, the previously unthinkable can be accomplished,” he wrote. “We will pray that the coalition for peace, prosperity, respect and understanding will prevail and create a bright and exciting future for humanity.”
As an advisor to former President Donald Trump, Kushner took a lead role in the negotiations for the historic 2020 Abraham Accords, a Middle East peace deal that normalized Israeli relations with many Arab neighbors.
