Iran has a new plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, Israeli intelligence warned the United State this week — and at Ayatollah Khamenei’s funeral this week, Iranians made their intentions clear for the entire world to see.
Giant scarlet banners reading “Kill Trump” and “There will be blood” were unfurled at the funeral of slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Mashhad on Thursday, alongside images of Trump’s face.
“We Will Kill Trump” banners were draped across buildings in the city as hundreds of thousands of mourners chanted “Death to America.” These were not fringe protesters. This was an official state funeral for the man Trump’s military killed in February.

The banners appeared the same time Israel delivered a more specific warning to Washington.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday U.S. officials believe Iran has developed a fresh assassination plot targeting Trump that is more specific than previous threats.
“They want to take out the U.S. leader — me,” Trump said at the NATO summit in Turkey on Wednesday. “I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists. And, so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long.”
When asked about Iran’s remaining leadership, Trump said the U.S. military continues to control the momentum.
“Their leaders are gone. They had leaders, they’re gone. Then they had another set of leaders, they’re gone. Now they have another set of leaders — they may be gone, who knows?” Then he paused and issued an icy warning. “And you know what? I may be gone too. Because I’m their number one target … because I’m doing what’s right for the country.”

This is not the first time Iran has tried to kill him.
After Trump ordered the January 2020 drone strike killing IRGC’s Islamic terror mastermind Qassem Soleimani, Tehran declared a blood oath. In 2022, Iran’s then-Supreme Leader publicly posted an animated video of Trump being murdered at his Florida golf course.
In July 2024, the Justice Department charged three people — including IRGC asset Farhad Shakeri, referred to in court filings as acting on direct orders to assassinate “Victim-4” — in a plot to kill Trump before the election. Shakeri, the DOJ said, was told to provide a kill plan within seven days. A Pakistani foreign national named Asif Merchant, convicted in March 2026, admitted the IRGC sent him to the United States specifically to arrange a political assassination. He was caught when the hit men he recruited turned out to be undercover federal officers.
Trump said at NATO he is considering wiping out another, third “level” of Iranian leadership if the conflict continues.
