Iowa basketball star breaks record with a signature ‘logo 3′

College basketball phenomenon Caitlin Clark shattered yet another record on Thursday. The Iowa guard became the new NCAA Division I women’s career scoring leader. She reached the top mark less than three minutes into Thursday’s game.

To claim the title, Clark casually used her signature move — a three-pointer shot almost from half court.

The Iowa star finished with 49 points, hit nine thre-pointers, and dished 13 assists in the Hawkeyes’ 106-89 win over Michigan.

“I don’t know if you could script it any better,” Clark, who grew up in Iowa rooting for the Hawkeyes, told the Associated Press. ““Just to do it in this fashion, I’m very grateful and thankful to be surrounded by so many people who have been my foundation in everything I’ve done since I was a young little girl. You all knew I was going to shoot the logo 3 for the record.”

Her next target is the overall women’s college scoring record, currently held by Lynette Woodard.

Clark’s stardom and flashy play have captured nationwide buzz over two standout seasons. She led Iowa to the 2022 championship game and won National Player of the Year honors. Ticket demand to see Clark has skyrocketed, alongside TV viewership for women’s basketball.

While some experts expect the draft’s #1 WNBA pick will turn pro soon, Iowa fans lobby for Clark to return next season. “One more year,” fans chanted out after she set the record. Regarding the chanting fans, coach Lisa Bluder insists, “I paid them.”

In any case, the sensation from small-town Iowa has continued raising the sport’s profile to new heights.
