Presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden has been racking up endorsements since all but locking up the pole position.
Earlier this week, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. was the latest to confirm her support.
But Biden has another woman asking to join his campaign: former first lady Michelle Obama.
And the oddsmakers and insiders say she’s a leading candidate to be named as Biden’s running mate.
According to The Hill, the Biden team is planning to announce her involvement very soon. Aides close to Biden stressed the importance of Mrs. Obama as a liberal icon among Democratic voters, and how they’ll use her fame among elite celebrities and donors to generate some enthusiasm — and cash — for the Biden run.
“We know what pretty much everyone in America does: Michelle Obama is probably the most beloved member of the Democratic party and her support is a big deal,” one Biden aide said. “Any future announcement would reflect the incredible impact her voice has.”
“Of course Mrs. Obama supports Joe Biden and we will keep you posted on her plans,” an Obama aide added.
Some close to the camp are speculating that Mrs. Obama will primarily be involved with mail-in voting, voter registration, and email fundraising.
Insider whispers have suggested that Mrs. Obama’s involvement with Biden will come in a similar fashion to husband Barack –– who earlier this week recorded a 12-minute video to convince fellow Democrats to rally behind his pal.
The Obamas are expected to increase their campaigning efforts this time around, as opposed to the 2016 race when they stumped half-heartedly for Hillary Clinton.
But how far will they go?
There are even some pundits who are expecting Mrs. Obama to become Biden’s pick for vice president, according to The Washington Examiner.
According to their report, she’s the top favorite among oddsmakers.
She has so far ruled out a run, the Examiner writes… but that could change at any moment.
