Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, is a controversial political figure.
But there’s one issue creeping up in the corners of the internet that could destroy her entire political legacy.
It’s possible that the Somali-born Omar married her own brother to allow him to stay in the U.S.
And she’s racing to get rid of the evidence exposing her — including a 2013 Tweet wishing her “father” a happy birthday.
She has the same father as the man she married, and was estranged from, years ago.
And we caught it!
“Happy Father’s Day to my aabo Nur Said, I am forever grateful to Allah for giving me the best father…” the now-deleted post wrote. There’s just one problem in that seemingly innocent tweet…

Based on that tweet, if her father’s surname is Nur Said that would make Omar’s real name Ilhan Nur Said. Here’s where it gets complicated: her husband’s name is also Ahmed Nur Said Elmi… which would mean that Omar married her brother in her second marriage.
The surname here is key.
The Daily Caller reported that “In Somalia, one’s name is normally a first name, the father’s name, and then the grandfather’s name.”
Omar deleted the tweet because it adds fuel to rising speculation that she married her brother to help him commit immigration fraud 10 years ago.
A conservative critic of Ilhan Omar (or perhaps, Ilhan Nur Said…) on Twitter put this very confusing puzzle together in a string of posts —

According to The Wall Street Journal, immigration fraud was rampant in the refugee community during the time Ilhan Omar immigrated from Somali as a refugee. Some critics believe she was falsely claimed to be an Ilhan Omar to become a refugee with another Somali family, when she was actually Ilhan Nur Said.
Eventually, the fraudulent use of “ghost children” in the U.S. refugee program was so widespread in 2008, former President Barack Obama instituted DNA testing to combat the suspected fraud. The pilot program found only 16 percent of applicants were actual family members with resettled U.S. refugees.
The Nur Said branch of the family was reportedly resettled as refugees in the United Kingdom a few years later. Little is known about Omar’s second husband, except that he was a member of the Nur Said branch.
Political pundit Glenn Beck put together a timeline of Omar’s immigration and marriages that coincide with all this — and critics say this, along with since-deleted tweets and social media photos of “nieces” and other Nur Said family members — is substantial circumstantial evidence that she may have committed immigration fraud on behalf of her brother.
After all, marriages don’t require DNA testing.
“In 2002, she entered into a ‘faith’ [non-legal] marriage to Ahmed Hirsi, which ended in a ‘faith’ divorce in 2008. The couple had two children. In 2009, Omar she entered into both a “faith” marriage and a legal marriage with Ahmed Nur Said Elmi [her reported brother].”
“In 2011, they had a ‘faith’ divorce, but remained legally married,” Red State reported. “In 2012, Omar and Hirsi reconciled and welcomed their third child. In 2017, Omar legally divorced Elmi, and the following year, she legally married Hirsi.”
Omar, Hirsi, their three children and Elmi all used the same address for much of this period.
Omar and Hirsi filed taxes jointly as a married couple during this time, despite her being legally married to Elmi.
To her credit, Omar has denied all the allegations and calls them “disgusting lies.” She refuses to provide further explanation.
Even liberal fact check sites are unable to debunk the controversy.
The runaround is nauseating, but it seems as though Omar may have married Nur Said Elmi, her British-resettled brother, on paper so that he could more easily stay and study in the United States.
And now Omar has some explaining to do to the American people.
