The “innocent grandma” narrative didn’t last long.
A video went viral last week showing ICE agents detaining an elderly woman at a gas station in New Mexico, and radicals on social media went berserk. The clip went viral, and people began demanding to know why federal agents were targeting a vulnerable grandmother.
Turns out, she’s a major meth trafficker, the Department of Homeland Security announced.
“On July 15, ICE conducted a targeted immigration enforcement operation and arrested Martha Sias, a criminal alien from Mexico who is a convicted meth trafficker,” DHS said in a statement Friday. “Martha Sias is a green card holder who is amendable to removal proceedings because of her criminal history. She will receive full due process and has an upcoming hearing.”
“Possessing a green card is a privilege, not a right,” DHS said. “Under our nation’s laws, our government has the authority to revoke a green card if our laws are broken and abused.”
On January 12, 2022, Sias crossed the U.S.-Mexico border with her husband Oscar Ochoa. A portable X-ray scan of the vehicle flagged the rear door panels. When officers questioned the couple, Sias told them she had traveled to Juarez to sign up customers for OMNILIFE supplements and denied bringing anything illegal into the country.
A second inspection found 18 taped bundles of crystal methamphetamine — approximately 20.6 pounds — hidden inside the vehicle’s rear door panels.
In October 2025, Sias pleaded guilty to manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony. She was sentenced to 10 years of supervised probation. Her husband’s charges were dropped.
At the time ICE arrested her outside the Allsup’s on July 15, Sias was still on probation.
KFOX14 reported that ICE identified the operation as a “targeted” enforcement action, not a random sweep. ICE does not randomly detain grandmothers at convenience stores.
Instead, ICE followed a convicted meth trafficker who had crossed the border with 20 pounds of drugs in her car door panels and pleaded guilty to a felony.
Now she’s on her way out of the country.
