President Joe Biden’s son Hunter is on trial. Hunter Biden is facing three felony charges related to the purchase of a gun in October 2018. He is accused of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer by falsely claiming he was not a drug user on the application and illegally possessing the gun for 11 days.
Federal prosecutors have been presenting evidence of his drug addiction to the jury for hours. They aim to show, through Biden’s own words and writing, how severe his addiction was when he allegedly lied on a form to purchase a firearm.
FBI agent Erika Jensen took the stand Tuesday, the first day of witness testimony.
More and more witnesses are rumored to testify in the coming days. They range from exes to experts.
Here are the testimonies to expect.
ERIKA JENSEN
Jensen was questioned about the timing of Hunter Biden’s drug use.
The FBI agent read aloud some of Hunter Biden’s personal messages, including some from a laptop he left at a Delaware repair shop and never retrieved.
In one exchange with Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie Biden, on the day after he bought the gun, she wrote: “I called you 500 times in past 24 hours.” Hunter replied less than a minute later, informing her that he was “sleeping on a car smoking crack on 4th street and Rodney.”
“There’s my truth,” he added in a follow-up text.
However, during cross-examination, Jensen testified that Hunter Biden sent fewer messages about seeking drugs in October 2018, around the time he purchased the gun, compared to February 2019, a later period in which Lowell described his client as struggling significantly with addiction.
KATHLEEN BUHLE
Biden’s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, is also expected to testify. Buhle was married to Biden for about 20 years, and she had three children with him. They divorced in 2016 due to Biden’s infidelity and drug abuse, and Buhle wrote a memoir “If We Break” chronicling her marriage to an addict.
Buhle is one of several Biden family members and friends expected to testify in a trial that has quickly turned into a highly personal and detailed account of Hunter Biden’s mistakes and drug use.
JAMES BIDEN
Attorneys said jurors would hear testimony from the president’s brother James Biden.
James is close with Hunter and helped his nephew through rehab stints in the past.
HALLIE BIDEN
Prosecutors have suggested that they plan to call Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden.
Jurors will likely hear how Hallie Biden became addicted to crack during a brief affair with Hunter.
ZOE KESTAN
“Witness 2” was identified by the New York Post as Zoe Kestan, a woman romantically involved with Hunter.
Prosecutors reportedly expect her to detail the sheer frequency of Hunter’s drug use.
RONALD PALIMERE
Hunter’s defense attorney reportedly said in May’s pretrial conference that he had some questions for Ronald Palimere, the owner of the gun shop in question.
According to a review by Politico, the defense intends to raise doubt on whether Hunter completed the entire form himself.
