In 2022, First Son Hunter Biden released a memoir amounting to a P.R. vehicle. Now, he’s continuing his apparent attempts to rebuild his image, and he’s releasing a back up: a documentary movie.
And Hunter has enlisted some powerful friends in Hollywood.
Entertainment lawyer Kevin Morris is bankrolling the documentary, according to Thursday’s bombshell report from the Los Angeles Times. Morris has been called Hunter’s “sugar brother.”
Morris remains best known for representing the creators of the sitcom South Park. In the 90s, Morris reportedly secured the showrunners an eye-popping 50% of the show’s profits from the Web, a new medium at the time. The white-shoe lawyer met first Hunter at a fundraiser for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign in 2019.
Since then, Morris has grown closer to Hunter. He reportedly loaned Hunter $2 million, and he bought at least one of the first child’s paintings, according to Business Insider.
“I don’t know where I would be if not for Kevin,” Hunter told the L.A. Times. “And I don’t mean just because he has loaned me money to survive this onslaught, I mean because he has given me back my dignity. He has been a brother to me. What was in it for Kevin? I think that you don’t truly understand or know Kevin if that’s your question.”
Now, Morris is investing in the documentary.
The L.A. Times described the upcoming movie as an account of “painting, selling his art, raising his son, and navigating everyday life as a sober adult with ongoing criminal investigations and in the crosshairs of Trump and his supporters.”
Conservatives criticized the L.A. Times report as “credulous.”
Even before the announcement about the documentary, Hunter had appeared with a film crew. For example, he spoke in front of some cameras when defying the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena last month.
As of Friday, the filmmakers have yet to release a trailer or announce a timeline for release.
Until then, audiences will need to settle for the home movies pulled from Hunter’s laptop.
