The Internal Revenue Service is sending out the long-awaited stimulus checks after President Donald Trump enacted the historic relief measure last month.
And one man, a volunteer firefighter in Indiana, received much more than he thought was coming to him.
Charles Calvin became a millionaire… for a short while.
It all happened by mistake.
According to local station WGN 9, Calvin had withdrawn $200 from his bank account when he noticed a little more numbers on the receipt –– $8.2 million –– far more than the $1,700 he expected to get.
He used the ATM again to confirm he hadn’t been daydreaming.
Sure enough, $8.2 million was sitting in his bank account.
But it all changed very quickly. According to the news report, by the time Calvin had called his bank, what was likely an IRS mistake had already been corrected.
“It kind of sucks,” he told WGN 9. “You go from being a millionaire one second then back to being broke again.”
“But hey, once you’re poor you don’t have anywhere else to go but up,” Calvin joked.
