House GOP wants to do one more thing before Biden family subpoena

The GOP-led House Oversight Commitee has been investigating Hunter Biden’s business dealings, independently of the executive branch.

Committee chair Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., has promised Thursday to subpoena the Biden family

“This is always going to end with the Bidens coming in front of the committee. We are going to subpoena the family,” Comer said at the time on Fox Business.

But Comer later said that he wants to see one more thing before issuing the subpoena.

He wants to see President Joe Biden’s personal bank records.

“All we want to see are some bank records that we think could answer some questions we have as to whether or not Joe Biden was a direct beneficiary of some of these shady payments from foreign nationals that were sent to at least nine of his family members,” Comer said Thursday evening on Newsmax. “That’s what people want. They want the truth. Did Joe Biden take bribes?”

Comer continued —

The bank records that we’ve gotten so far have been from the shell companies…

We have a few more associates to talk to. We’re trying to get a few more of the shell company bank records. Once we do that, I think we’ve made the case. I think we’ve already made the case now, but it’s only going to be a stronger case that we need to see Biden bank records.

They’re going to be given an opportunity to be transparent with the American people. Remember, Joe Biden said he was going to be the most transparent president in the history of the United States. Joe Biden was cheering the Democrats all along the way when they released Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Comer made a similar remark earlier on Fox Business, even after promising to “subpoena the family.”

“We’re putting the case together to win in court. Obviously with all the opposition and obstruction we’re getting from the Biden attorneys now, we know that this is going to end up in court when we subpoena the Bidens,” Comer told Fox Business on Thursday.

“So we’re putting together a case. And I think we’ve done that very well. We’ve shown the bank records.”

Only two sitting presidents — Gerald Ford and Abraham Lincoln — have ever testified before the House. Vice President Schuyler Colfax also testified during his tenure, under President Ulysses S. Grant.

Former President Donald Trump did not testify before Congress during either of his two impeachments.

“I believe people should be held accountable,” Comer said on Newsmax.

“If it was easy to get a president in front of a congressional committee, I think the Democrats would have had Trump in front of at least the Jan. 6 Committee, if not in front of the two Judiciary impeachment hearings. It’s very difficult to get a sitting president in the United States in front of the committee, but we certainly want to try to get the bank records. We want to try to get Biden family members to come in front of the committee and answer questions.”
