Comedian Will Ferrell has released a provocative and heavily criticized get-out-the-vote advertisement for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, cursing at the viewer to emphasize the importance of individual votes in Tuesday’s election.
“This election is going to be one of the closest in history. Your vote will make the difference,” the “Elf” star says in the ad titled “That Means You,” before addressing a hypothetical voter: “That means you, Gary.”
Ferrell, 57, dismisses Democratic voter apathy over Harris’ campaign with explicit language.
“‘Oh blah, blah, blah; I’m just one person.’ No, shut the f**k up, Gary. Last time, only a few thousand votes kept Trump out of office. And this time, we’ll hold you personally responsible, Gary.”
The advertisement, released Sunday, follows Ferrell’s earlier campaign appearance with comedian Billy Eichner where both wore shirts reading “Loud White Men for Kamala.”
The spot has sparked social media debate, with critics arguing the tone crosses a line.
“Democrats have now resorted to physically threatening people to vote for Kamala. Will Ferrell should’ve stuck to comedy. This isn’t funny at all,” one user wrote on X.
Ferrell joins other Hollywood figures supporting Harris in the campaign’s final days, including several Marvel actors who released their own video endorsement last week.
