It’s no secret that President Donald Trump loves to golf.
Trump himself has claimed that he’s won multiple club championships, and that he’s shot very low rounds at some of the toughest courses around the world.
But after a recent trip to Scotland to help unveil Trump’s newest course, viral video surfaced that appeared to show Trump “cheating” with his ball placement in the rough, and many are now speculating whether or not Trump’s USGA handicap is legit.
However, a renowned golf expert is backing Trump and his game.
According to Trump, he claims to have played off a handicap as low as 2.8 — a declaration that’s now been partially backed up by Paul Elvin, founder of The London Golf Performance Academy.
“From the right tees, I believe he’s a 2.8 handicap,” Elvin told the Independent’s Harry Latham-Coyle.
“On PGA Tour-length courses with tough pin placements, I don’t believe he would be able to shoot better than an 80.
“But most courses are shorter and more approachable — I believe he can play to that handicap or better around these types of venues.”
Despite utilizing what many call an unconventional swing, it’s one that’s reliable and delivers consistent results.
“He rotates fantastically well through impact and generates great power in transition,” Elvin noted.
“It might look unusual on the eye because his backswing is flatter than the professionals you will see on TV, but he re-routes back onto plane in the downswing and rotates well with a stable release. Considering his age, it’s a very good golf swing.”
Elvin is not the only top golf expert to validate Trump’s golf game.
This past April, Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee revealed where Trump shines and struggles on the golf course after playing alongside the president before his re-election.
Chamblee, who is known for being one of the most honest analysts in golf, made some honest critiques about Trump’s game.
Chamblee said that Trump does very well off the tee but that the president could improve around the green.
“President Trump smokes it. Hits it on a line,” Chamblee told Skip Bayless.
“He absolutely drives the eyes out of it. He’s not the best chipper, he’s not the best putter, but he drives the eyes out of it and hits a lot of great iron shots.”
