President Donald Trump called for the arrest of billionaire Democratic donor George Soros over the weekend. The president told NBC News on Saturday that Soros “should be put in jail” and hinted that criminal charges could soon be filed against the 95-year-old financier.
“He’s a bad guy” and “should be put in jail,” Trump said.
Two days previously, Trump told Fox News that his administration would launch a federal investigation into Soros under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly known as RICO.
“We’re going to look into Soros because I think it’s a RICO case against him and other people because this is more than protests. This is real agitation; this is riots on the street — and we’re going to look into that,” Trump said.
Trump cited a recent incident at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab near the White House, where he dined Tuesday with Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators confronted the group before their meal.
“You know they have professional agitators. I had one the other night. I went into the restaurant and this woman stood up. I looked at her immediately. She had money… They get paid for it,” Trump said.
The president first warned that Soros could face criminal charges in an August 27 post on Truth Social, writing that Soros and his son Alex “should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America.”
“We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more, never giving it so much as a chance to ‘BREATHE,’ and be FREE. Soros, and his group of psychopaths, have caused great damage to our Country! That includes his Crazy, West Coast friends,” Trump wrote on his social media website.
“Be careful, we’re watching you! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
Alex Soros, who now chairs the Open Society Foundations that his father founded, has taken over much of the day-to-day operations of the multi-billion dollar organization. The foundation has funded numerous progressive causes and candidates across the United States.
The Open Society Foundations has repeatedly denied supporting violent protests.
Soros has long been a major financial backer of Democratic candidates and progressive causes. His foundation has supported district attorney candidates in major cities across the country, many of whom have implemented radical far-Left criminal justice reforms that critics say have led to major crime increases.
