California Gov. Gavin Newsom unleashed a profanity-laced “racist” personal attack on Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville Thursday that quickly went viral.
Tuberville had reposted an image from the account “End Wokeness” that placed a photo of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks side-by-side with a picture of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim who hosted his first iftar dinner at City Hall this week.
Tuberville captioned the repost: “The enemy is inside the gates.”
Newsom responded by claiming Tuberville was a racist from brain damage sustained playing football.
“Tommy Tuberville proves to the world that a football hitting your head can turn you into a racist piece of s**t. Congrats, Tommy,” Newsom posted on X.

The controversy comes from Mamdani’s decision earlier this week to host activist Mahmoud Khalil and his family to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Ramadan in City Hall.
Khalil previously celebrated the terror attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 as an “unavoidable moment” in Palestine. Over 1,200 innocent Israeli citizens, many women and children, were murdered by the terror group.
Khalil has refused to condemn the radical Islamic terror attack in subsequent interviews.
Newsom and Tuberville have a running feud that predates Thursday’s exchange. Tuberville has called for the California governor to be locked up in prison, while Newsom has made a habit of picking high-profile fights with Republican figures as he works to raise his national profile ahead of a 2028 presidential run.
The controversy comes just days after a radical Islamic terror attack at a protest against Mandami in New York City.
Conservatives on social media have claimed the optics of the attack — where the terrorist used a counter-protester as literal leverage to launch his attack — justify their position.

I found it almost unbelievable that the terrorist picked a radical leftist screaming about Islamophobia to use for leverage so he could launch the bomb even farther. pic.twitter.com/pekYpxsy9e
