For two years, former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile was the liberal pundit and contributor on many of Fox News’ conservative (and not-so-conservative) shows.
Don’t expect to see her on-air any longer, however.
Over the weekend, Brazile quietly left the network in an “amicable” separation and she rejoined ABC News.
For years, Fox News had allowed Brazile to appear on ABC’s Sunday news show This Week. Brazile made the formal move to join the network full-time when her contract with Fox News expired.
“When my contract expired, they offered me an additional two to four years,” Brazile told The Atlanta Black Star. “But I decided to return to ABC.”
Brazile’s hiring at Fox News was controversial from the start. In 2016, when she was at CNN, the longtime Democrat strategist had leaked questions ahead of a presidential debate to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the 2016 primary. Brazile was fired from the network after the leak became public.
Former President Donald Trump blasted her hiring at the time. “So @donnabrazile gives Crooked Hillary the Questions, and now she’s on @FoxNews,” he tweeted in 2019.
At the time, Brazile said it was important for Democrats to be heard by Fox News’ audience.
“There’s an audience on Fox News that doesn’t hear enough from Democrats,” Brazil said. “We have to engage that audience and show Americans of every stripe what we stand for rather than retreat into our ‘safe spaces’ where we simply agree with each other.”
During her two-year tenure, Brazile had frequent firey exchanges with conservative hosts and Republican strategists.
Her departure from the network follows a number of other high-profile exits in recent weeks, including The Five’s Juan Williams and Fox & Friends Weekend’s Jedediah Bila.
