Fox News star Sean Hannity got an unexpectedly flat answer from House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-T.N., when he directly asked if the Republican leader could prove the bribery allegations against President Joe Biden.
Biden has been accused of using his position as vice president to help his troubled son, Hunter, land multi-million-dollar foreign business deals — and even accused of taking bribes as “the Big Guy” himself.
But Comer wouldn’t say if he had proof and only gave an answer about “hope” and “smoke” — frustrating conservative hardliners.
The interview came the same day that the House Oversight Committee heard bombshell testimony from the former business partner of Hunter, Devon Archer, who said the president was directly involved in over 20 phone calls with Hunter and foreign partners.
Comer issued a statement accusing Biden of lying “to the American people when he said he had no knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved.”
But Comer didn’t go as far as to directly accuse Biden of breaking the law. He said Archer’s testimony only “begs the question” about what else Biden is hiding, and said that investigations will continue.
“Why did Joe Biden lie to the American people about his family’s business dealings and his involvement? It begs the question what else he is hiding from the American people. The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will continue to follow the Bidens’ money trail and interview witnesses to determine whether foreign actors targeted the Bidens, President Biden is compromised and corrupt, and our national security is threatened,” Comer’s statement said.
Fox News’ Hannity asked Comer and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-O.H., directly on Monday night, “yes or no,” if they’ll be able to prove the allegations, which would almost certainly lead to the impeachment of Biden.
“I sure hope so,” Comer replied meekly.
“I tell you, and this is why the Republicans have one half of one house,” Hannity said. “One branch of government is so critical because these investors would all get covered up. And both of you put your neck on the line to get to the truth. And we went a long way today.”
“Will you both answer, yes or no: Do you believe that this is now officially the Joe Biden bribery allegation? And do you believe that you will be able to prove that?” Hannity asked.
“I sure hope so. And I do believe that there’s a lot of smoke. And where there’s smoke, there’s fire. We just heard testimony today that Joe Biden had lied to the American people,” Comer replied.
Hannity then directly asked Jordan the same question — and got a similarly tepid response.
” Jim Jordan, do you believe that? And do you believe that the DOJ has been helping to cover it up?” Hannity asked.
“Well, it sure looks that way,” Jordan responded. “And I would tell you this, Joe Biden said he was not involved. There were two dinners at the Cafe Milano in D.C.. One of them, as you pointed out, where Joe Biden was there for the entire dinner. Both times.”
“One of them had Mrs. Baturina, this Russian, the wealthiest woman in Russia, worth over a billion dollars,” he continued. “So, that sure is a different story than what he’s been telling us all along.”
Republican leadership has flip-flopped about a possible impeachment inquiry, frustrating the party’s right flank.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy even cautioned Republican House members in a closed door meeting last Wednesday, and said the GOP would launch a formal probe only “when — and if — they secured the evidence to justify one,” Politco reported late last week.
