There’s a big change coming to Fox News’ lineup of regular correspondents — and it’s a move very few outside the industry saw coming.
The Fox News channel announced on Thursday they’d hired Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic gold medal-winning athlete turned reality television star that went by the name Bruce until she came out as transgender in 2015.
That same year she announced her preferred name on the cover of Vanity Fair with the caption, “Call Me Caitlyn.”
Jenner is an outspoken conservative who ran for governor of California in 2021.
Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott praised Caitlyn as an inspiration when she announced the hire.
“Caitlyn’s story is an inspiration to us all,” Scott said. “She is a trailblazer in the LGBTQ+ community and her illustrious career spans a variety of fields that will be a tremendous asset for our audience.”
“I am humbled by this unique opportunity to speak directly to FOX News Media’s millions of viewers about a range of issues that are important to the American people,” Jenner said.
Jenner’s conservative Republican links have gotten plenty of pushback among the LGBTQ+ community because she’s the world’s most recognizable transgendered person.
“I have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans,” Jenner said in the past.
Jenner’s Fox News debut will happen in hours of publication.
She is scheduled to make her first appearance on Sean Hannity’s primetime Hannity on Thursday night.
