On Monday, Fox host Greg Gutfield discussed the press coverage of President Joe Biden Monday.
At one point, Gutfield unfavorably compared Biden to the outspoken socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
“He’s basically AOC in a bad grandpa rubber suit,” Gutfield said on The Five.
Ouch!
Gutfield began by responding to a remark from CNN political analyst Joe Lockhart.
On Sunday, Lockhart criticized the press for its negative coverage of Biden.
“I think the press is failing,” Lockhart said during CNN’s Reliable Sources. “They’re treating him unfairly.”
Gutfield responded:
Here’s the weird thing about these numbers. This is what crazy, OK… You have to understand. There’s actually very, very, very little bad coverage about Joe Biden. I mean, we talk about it all the time, because that’s what we do. There’s very little bad coverage on him. But it’s not necessary, because his ineptitude and decrepitude has become part of mainstream culture. It’s like, you don’t have to talk that bad about him. You don’t have to criticize him, because it’s kind of been understood that this is kind of what we’re stuck with.
Gutfield concluded:
And the saddest part about it is — and I’m beating a dead horse here, quite literally — Joe put wokeism before the welfare of the country. You have some really, really, really big issues here, whether it’s crime, fentanyl poisoning These are things that affect every citizen, Black or white, you name it. But instead Joe is like, “January 6! Voting rights!”… He’s basically AOC in a bad grandpa rubber suit.
Gutfield was probably referring to Biden’s recent, controversial speech on “voting rights.”
On Jan. 11, Biden spoke about the Democrats’ two radical new voting bills, and he compared ballot integrity measures to Jim Crow.
“Jim Crow 2.0 is about two insidious things: voter suppression and election subversion. It’s no longer about who gets to vote; it’s about making it harder to vote. It’s about who gets to count the vote and whether your vote counts at all,” Biden said.
“It’s not hyperbole; this is a fact.”
He also hammered the riot at the Capitol.
“The battle for the soul of America is not over,” he said. “We must stand strong and stand together to make sure Jan. 6 marks not the end of democracy but the beginning of a renaissance of our democracy.”
Pew Research surveyed the media’s coverage of Biden’s first 100 days, compared to the first 100 days of previous presidents.
Pew described the coverage of Biden as similar to the coverage of former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Biden’s coverage looked slightly more negative than media darling Barack Obama… but significantly more positive than media boogeyman Donald Trump.
Plus, Pew used rather crude methods for the survey. The organization didn’t adequately distinguish mildly positive coverage from extremely positive coverage.
So, Biden may look even better in the eyes of the media — just not the eyes of the American people.
