Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., might have ran his city like a mess. While the chief of the Windy City, Emanuel was embroiled scandals surrounding police shootings, skyrocketing murder rates, and at one point of his tenure only 17 percent of Chicagoans had confidence in him.
But the longtime political ally of former President Barack Obama and Bill Clinton has one thing right.
As a longtime Democrat, he’s warning that the radical left push by liberals in the 2020 presidential election is going to lead to Donald Trump’s reelection. In an opinion piece for The Atlantic, Emanuel fires a warning shot at socialist Democrats.
He warned that by abandoning its moderate base, which drove the 2018 House takeover, and by letting the radical voices serve as their mouthpiece Democrats are going to self-implode the party.
Emanuel went on to cite the Democrats most controversial platforms since the 2018 midterms: the Green New Deal, widespread Medicare, and a disastrous tax hike.
Republicans, lead by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have jumped on these proposals, challenging Democrats to vote on the radical ideas. They declined, which only shines a public spotlight on how terrifying and dangerous those ideas are for the country.
“Republicans are telling you something when they gleefully schedule votes on proposals like the Green New Deal, Medicare for all, and a 70 percent marginal tax rate,” Emanuel said. “When they’re more eager to vote on the Democratic agenda than we are, we should take a step back and ask ourselves whether we’re inadvertently letting the political battle play out on their turf rather than our own.”
Emanuel explained that Democrats are once again repeating their 2016 mistakes by not taking President Donald Trump and his supporters seriously. Democrats are failing to find dependable candidates who can talk to voters in America’s heartland such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
“Credibility proved to be something of a liability in 2016, when the electorate’s desire for radical change prompted many voters to embrace Donald Trump’s less traditional appeal.”
Now, it seems the Democrats are embracing extremism.
And it’s going to lead to Trump’s reelection.
