Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of nearly 243,000 Maverick small pickup trucks in the United States due to a potential issue with the tail lights.
The recall affects certain Maverick models from the 2022 through 2024 model years.
The problem stems from a computer glitch that can incorrectly detect excessive current on one or both of the tail lamps.
When this happens, the tail lights may fail to illuminate while the truck is being driven, posing a safety risk and increasing the likelihood of a crash.
Although the tail lights may not function properly, other essential lighting components such as headlights, turn signals, and brake lights will continue to work as intended.
This means that while the truck may be less visible from behind, it will still be able to signal its presence and intentions to other drivers on the road.
Ford has stated that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.
The company plans to address the problem by updating the software in the affected vehicles at no cost to the owners.
To ensure that all affected Maverick owners are aware of the recall, Ford will begin mailing out notification letters on May 20.
These letters will provide instructions on how to schedule a service appointment at a local Ford dealership to have the necessary software updates installed.
By promptly addressing this issue, Ford aims to minimize any potential risks to its millions and millions of customers… and to ensure their safety on the road.
