A series of recent burglaries at the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have prompted federal investigators to intervene.
With investigators worried that these break-ins could be part of a larger plot.
The burglaries occurred between Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 when the two Chiefs stars had their homes broken into.
According to TMZ, Mahomes’ mansion was burglarized around midnight on Oct. 6 and Kelce’s estate was broken into around 7:33 p.m. on Oct. 7 shortly after the kick-off of the Chiefs’ “Monday Night Football” game.
According to a police report, $20,000 cash was taken from Kelce’s home. TMZ reported that a source said that Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift, who had been in town for that night’s Chiefs’ game, stayed at a downtown Kansas City hotel, with Swift’s security team taking the incident at Kelce’s home very seriously.
Mahomes and Kelce have not addressed the incidents publicly as of last night.
However, federal investigators are now joining the joint investigation with local authorities.
A source told TMZ that the FBI’s involvement in the burglaries would lend credence to the idea that the crimes could involve “organized crime crossing state lines.”
The Bureau is also said to be looking into break-ins at homes in nearby neighborhoods, which would track with a previous report that burglaries of Mahomes and Kelce’s homes were part of a bigger spree.
