Fani Willis, the controversial Fulton County District Attorney who’s leading the case against former President Donald Trump in Georgia, is suddenly facing a significant new legal challenge.
Willis’ 25-year-old pregnant daughter, Kinaya Willis, was arrested for driving with a suspended license last week.
On August 24, 2024, police in Tyrone, Georgia, pulled over Kinaya Willis’ 2010 Nissan Altima while she was allegedly using her cell phone.
Kinaya told the police she was on the phone with her mother about her pregnancy. Her license had been suspended on May 13 for a similar offense, police said, which Kinaya denied knowing.
According to reports, the police then handcuffed Kinaya and booked her in Fayette County Jail. She was charged with a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license. Kinaya was later released and is set to appear in court on October 24. If found guilty, she could face at least two days in jail and a $500 fine. For a second offense, the punishment could be much worse.
This arrest adds to the numerous challenges DA Willis has faced recently, whose infamous legal case against Trump — who is charged along with 13 co-defendents with trying to interfere in Georgia’s 2020 election — has run into significant problems.
Earlier this year, Willis was accused of having an improper sexual relationship with Nathan Wade, a lawyer she hired with taxpayer money to work on the Trump case.
The judge rebuked Willis for poor judgment, and while he didn’t remove her from the case he did demand Wade withdraw down from his role.
Kinaya Willis has also been in the news before. Her father, Fani’s ex-husband, recently defended Kinaya after she had failed out of college during the COVID-19 pandemic. She later graduated from Texas Southern University, and is reportedly planning to go to law school.
As of now, neither Fani Willis nor Kinaya Willis has commented on the arrest.
