The mainstream media and Democratic leadership have gone so far out on a limb with their hatred for President Donald Trump that they now claim the president may be on the verge of murdering his wife or former FBI Director James Comey.
At one point, left-wing commentators believed Trump had already murdered his wife – and was ready to pardon himself for the crime.
The wild speculation began when first lady Melania Trump disappeared from the public eye for 27 days while recovering from a medical procedure. Rumors flew that the glamorous first lady suffered from a serious illness, or she left her husband… or even that Trump had battered her in the White House and sent her into hiding until the bruises healed.
A reporter for Rolling Stone claimed Melania was actually “concealing abuse.” NeverTrump writer David Frum, a former President George W. Bush speechwriter, stoked speculation of domestic abuse during this time:
Suppose President Trump punched the First Lady in the White House (federal property = federal jurisdiction), then ordered the Secret Service to conceal the assault. POTUS has Article II authority over Secret Service. Is that obstruction? Under Sekulow/Dowd, apparently NO

Others suggested that she had enough of Trump’s violence and moved in with the Obamas – or may even be dead.
This happened at the same time that former Democratic adviser George Stephanopoulos planted the idea that Trump might pardon himself – an admission that the president was guilty of some major crime.
It was only a matter of time before unhinged liberals connected the two.
A newspaper owned by USA Today, the Clarion Ledger, ran a column asking, “What if Donald Trump shot Melania?”
“What if Trump did it? I wondered,” wrote Kary Love. “What if he had done away with Melania?”
“If Trump had offed Melania, he could pardon himself and avoid federal prosecution,” wrote Love, a Michigan-based attorney, in the Jackson, Mississippi, newspaper.
One day after the paper published the column, Melania showed up at a press conference with her husband, looking radiant as ever – but that didn’t stop liberals from accusing the president of plotting one or more slayings.
The Huffington Post turned a dull legal argument into a possible premeditated homicide.
The president’s legal team believes a president can’t be tried for a crime while in office. He would have to be impeached – and then he could be tried as a criminal.
The publication asked Rudy Giuliani what would happen if Trump murdered Comey – and Giuliani said swift and certain justice would follow.
“If he shot James Comey, he’d be impeached the next day,” Giuliani replied. “Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to do to him.”
The left immediately turned this into an allegation that the president might shoot Comey to stop the never-ending investigation into “Russian collusion.”
“Would Republicans Let Trump Get Away With Murder?” Vanity Fair asked, while falsely claiming that Giuliani said “Donald Trump, could literally shoot the director of the F.B.I. and not break the law.”
Prestige media outlets like New York Magazine and Salon jumped on board.
CNN went so far as have a legal expert – a former advisor to Robert Mueller – discuss what would happen if Trump did murder someone.
“Were the president to shoot someone, he would be chargeable with the crime of murder under state law, and possibly federal law depending on who was shot,” Michael Zeldin told the network, which Trump describes as “fake news.”
Several of the outlets quoted Trump’s joke on the campaign trail that he “could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody” and not lose his voters’ support.
The media got so carried away portraying Trump as a possible killer that Giuliani told a TMZ reporter, “He’s not going to do that, that’s obviously just a metaphor.”
It would be outrageous enough if the media were the only ones claiming the president might bump off his political foes… but the twisted accusation is being repeated by elected officials at the highest levels.
The day after Love’s column was published, 17 Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee raised the issue of the president assassinating Comey directly to the White House.
“Do you believe, as Mr. Giuliani has stated, that President Trump could murder the FBI Director and not face criminal charges as long as he remains in office?” they asked in a letter to White House Counsel Donald F. McGahn II.
A former Obama administration official also stirred the pot. Norm Eisen, the lawyer who handled ethics for the Obama administration, claimed that Giuliani said “a president could not be prosecuted for murder.”
Not long ago, the media said the terms “community organizer” or “socialist” were racist slurs no one should apply to the president. Now they openly call the commander-in-chief a would-be murderer. No wonder no one believes liberals anymore.
