Facebook is about to have a major “fake news” problem… and it’s NOT the one you’re thinking of.
The social networking giant is caving to pressure from liberals still crying over the results of the 2016 election.

There are about a thousand places they can point the finger, from a flawed candidate to a flawed strategy that essentially surrendered the Rust Belt to Donald Trump.
Instead, they’re blaming Facebook and the so-called “fake news” problem.
And certainly, there’s plenty of misinformation and outright lies being spread on social media on both sides of the aisle.
But it’s the left that’s pressuring Facebook to act, and the company is folding like a cheap suit, creating a new feature that allows anyone who feels triggered by a story they don’t like to report it as “fake.”

The company of course claims it just wants real news and hasn’t said it would censor one side and favor the other.
But if history is any indication, conservatives should be worried over the move – because Facebook doesn’t exactly have a track record of fair play.
Last year, in the heat of the election, a whistleblower working on Facebook’s news operation claimed the company was routinely pushing left-wing stories and actively suppressing information from the right.
“Depending on who was on shift, things would be blacklisted or trending,” the whistleblower, a former news “curator” at the site told the Gizmodo website. “I’d come on shift and I’d discover that CPAC or Mitt Romney or Glenn Beck or popular conservative topics wouldn’t be trending because either the curator didn’t recognize the news topic or it was like they had a bias against Ted Cruz.”

He said some topics backed by conservative would trend, but then get shut down by unscrupulous agenda-driven Facebook “editors.”
Those same editors would ignore trending stories if they came from conservative sites such as Breitbart, Washington Examiner or Newsmax and link to them later only if they appeared on sites they found more acceptable, like The New York Times or BBC.
“I believe it had a chilling effect on conservative news,” the whistleblower was quoted as saying.
And that’s not the only warning sign.

Earlier this year, left-wing publisher David Brock of Media Matters boasted to his supporters that he was pressuring both Google and Facebook to favor his brand of news.
“Internet and social media platforms, like Google and Facebook, will no longer uncritically and without consequence host and enrich fake news sites and propagandists,” he warned at his presentation – and he was no doubt using those disparaging terms not to attack news that’s TRULY fake, but to discredit conservative media.
So when Facebook says its new button will allow users to flag “fake” news, be wary… because the people who ultimately decide what’s “fake” may not have the truth in mind at all.
