If House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is serious about ending the federal government shutdown, you wouldn’t know it.
She spent part of the shutdown partying in Hawaii.
And she’s planning to introduce legislation that would end the shutdown without providing any money for President Donald Trump’s border wall — even though she knows Trump won’t sign it.
So why isn’t Pelosi trying to end the shutdown — especially if she claims she cares about the hundreds of thousands of federal workers in financial limbo?
Well, it turns out that Pelosi has an ugly secret…
She’s willing to continue the shutdown indefinitely and to use federal workers as pawns.
Why?
Because she’s absolutely certain that the anti-Trump mainstream media will back her and make Trump the shutdown villain.
In other words, Pelosi is making a political gamble that the longer the shutdown lasts, the better it will be for her and her fellow Democrats.
And the worse it will be for Trump.
It’s an absolutely cynical ploy, especially while Americans are being denied services and federal workers are struggling to make ends meet.
But the sad truth is, Pelosi is not wrong.
Research has shown that the mainstream media has directed more negative coverage toward Trump than any president in modern history.
A study last year from the Media Research Center found that the news coverage of Trump has been 92 percent negative.
How’s that for so-called “unbiased” journalism?
Pelosi and other Democratic leaders expect the media to make their case — and carry their water — for them. So they’re going to make no serious efforts to end the shutdown.
Expect the negative media coverage to continue throughout the shutdown — and it will be up to Trump and his team to stand firm.
But even as these anti-Trump advocates masquerading as journalists continue to back Pelosi, Americans should never forget that the debate over the shutdown is very simple.
There are two — and only two — sides.
Trump’s side is advocating for tougher border security that will protect all Americans.
And Pelosi’s side isn’t.
