Jason Kelce, a beloved figure in Philadelphia sports, has officially signed a multiyear agreement to join ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” team.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a presentation to advertisers in New York, confirming rumors that had been circulating about Kelce’s plans for the new stage of his career.
Kelce, who played 13 seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles, will replace Robert Griffin III on the popular pregame show. Griffin III will continue his work with ESPN as a college football analyst. The “Monday Night Countdown” team also includes host Scott Van Pelt and analysts Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark.
Football fans can look forward to seeing Kelce in action on Sept. 9, when the “Monday Night Football” regular-season opener features the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers hosting Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.
Kelce’s transition to broadcasting comes as no surprise to those who have followed his career. He participated in last year’s NFL Broadcasting and Media Workshop, formerly known as the “Broadcast Bootcamp,” which helps players prepare for potential roles in media after their playing days are over.
The former Eagles center was highly sought-after by networks for the upcoming season, and his signing with ESPN is a major coup for the network.
Kelce’s engaging personality, deep knowledge of the game, and ability to connect with fans make him a natural fit for a broadcasting role.
In addition to his new role at ESPN, Kelce is expected to continue co-hosting the popular “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Travis Kelce, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The podcast, which offers a unique blend of football analysis and brotherly banter, has become a hit with fans.
As Jason Kelce embarks on this new chapter in his career, football enthusiasts can look forward to his presence on “Monday Night Countdown” and during ESPN’s Super Bowl week coverage.
