Senator Elizabeth Warren addressed a town hall audience on Saturday in Massachusetts — and told the crowd that she has her eyes locked on President Donald Trump’s seat in the Oval Office in 2020.
Warren was asked by an audience member if she has plans for a presidential run, and responded that after the midterm elections she will “take a hard look at” it.
Earlier this summer, Warren announced she had no political plans in mind other than to defend her U.S. Senate seat against Rep. Geoff Diehl… but on Saturday that all changed.
While speaking at a town hall meeting in Holyoke, Massachussetts, Warren told the audience, “Let’s face it, Donald Trump is taking this country in the wrong direction.”
“Working people have taken one punch to the gut after another,” she continued. “And I am worried down to my bones about what Donald Trump is doing to our democracy.”
Warren told the group that Washington was broken before Trump took office, but that it has “gotten a lot worse” since he became president.
Referencing the hearings that took place on Thursday over allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Warren told the group that this week she “watched powerful men helping a powerful man make it to an even more powerful position,”
“I watched that and I thought: time’s up,” she said. “It’s time for women to go to Washington and fix our broken government, and that includes a woman at the top.”
She continued her rant, saying, “So here’s what I promise: After Nov. 6, I will take a hard look at running for president. I think we can turn this country around.”
According to CBS,”Warren has previously said that she was not running for president in 2020.”
In August, the Senator had stated, she was “not running for president in 2020. I am running for the Senate in 2018. The important fight coming up is the midterm election.”
Warren’s change of heart on Saturday prompted her re-election challenger to call on her to drop out of the Senate race.
“This is what we’ve been saying all along, that she wanted to run for president,” he said. “She’s been lying to the people of Massachusetts.”
“I am calling on her to drop out of the Senate and pursue her real interest,” said Diehl.

It’s time for women to go to Washington & fix our broken gov't. That includes a woman at the top. Today at a town hall in Holyoke, Marty, a Springfield teacher, asked where things stand with me running for President in 2020. I told him: after Nov 6th, I'll take a hard look at it. pic.twitter.com/JBRPMFsERf
