Former President Donald Trump is dominating the Republican presidential primary, and as the presumptive GOP nominee his would-be running mate will be a historic decision.
One possibility that has reportedly been floated is a unity ticket with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
In fact, Trump’s team made the unexpected move of reaching out to Kennedy “early on,” one insider told The New York Post.
RFK Jr. is polling near 20 percent in a three-way 2024 election match-up with Trump and President Joe Biden. Combined with Trump’s polling numbers, they make up over 50 percent of the electorate — a potential landslide victory for the Republicans.
“Trump operatives expressed an interest in Kennedy early on … right out of the box when Bobby announced,” the source reportedly revealed.
“Anything’s possible,” the insider said. “I wouldn’t write it off by any means.”
A megadonor for RFK, Jr’s Super PAC told the Post that the talks were happening “behind the scenes” — but in a fiery statemetn, Trump’s team denied considering Kennedy at all and called the reports “fake news.”
“It’s very much behind the scenes at this stage. As we progress you might see it bubble up a little bit more,” a Kennedy donor told The Post. “Bobby can bring new people to the polls.”
Senior Trump aide Chris LaCivita called the reports “FAKE NEWS” in a social media statement.

This is 100% FAKE NEWS – NO ONE from the Trump Campaign ever approached RFK jr (or ever will) – one of the most LIBERAL and radical environmentalists in the country. For all the fake news- update your stories. https://t.co/HYBJLqSux0

Kennedy confirmed that he’d heard reports of a unity ticket and said he was flattered — but wouldn’t accept the offer.
“I would not take that job. And I’m flattered that President Trump would offer it to me, but it’s not something that I’m interested in,” Kennedy told NewsNation on Sunday.
What are your thoughts?
Should Trump name Kennedy as his running mate — or no?
