In a surprising move that could reshape the political landscape in a crucial battleground state, former President Donald Trump just scored a massive endorsement — and it completely destroys the mainstream media’s narrative.
Democrat Amer Ghalib, the Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, has endorsed Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
The announcement, made via Facebook on Sunday, has sent shockwaves through political circles in a state that could decide the 2024 presidential election.
Ghalib, a 45-year-old Yemeni immigrant who became Hamtramck’s first Muslim mayor in 2021, called Trump “a man of principles” and “the right choice for this critical time.”
His endorsement came just days after a private 20-minute meeting with the former president in Flint, Michigan.
“Though it’s looking good, he may or may not win the election and be the 47th president of the United States, but I believe he is the right choice for this critical time,” Ghalib wrote on his Facebook page. He added, “I’ll not regret my decision no matter what the outcome would be, and I’m ready to face the consequences.”
Hamtramck, a city of about 28,000 residents just outside Detroit, made headlines in 2021 when it became the first U.S. city to elect an all-Muslim city council.
With over 40% of its population foreign-born, including many Yemeni immigrants, the city represents a unique demographic in American politics.
The endorsement comes at a critical time for both campaigns. Recent polls show a tight race in Michigan between Trump and his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. The New York Times reports Harris leading by a slim margin of 50% to 47% in the popular vote.
But the electoral college could easily swing to Trump’s favor if he wins key Democratic states like Michigan.
Ghalib’s support for Trump is particularly significant given the history of Muslim-American voting patterns. A recent poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations found that only 12% of Muslim voters in Michigan expressed support for Harris, with 18% backing Trump — and 40% supporting the Green Party’s Jill Stein.
The endorsement has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising Ghalib’s “bold and courageous decision” while Democrats attacked the move.
The mayor acknowledged the disagreements but stood firm in his decision, stating, “Now, let the Caravan begin its journey. This is just the starting point.”
