Last month, former President Donald Trump pushed for the defense to give the final word in his trial for falsifying business records.
“WHY IS THE CORRUPT GOVERNMENT ALLOWED TO MAKE THE FINAL ARGUMENT IN THE CASE AGAINST ME? WHY CAN’T THE DEFENSE GO LAST? BIG ADVANTAGE, VERY UNFAIR. WITCH HUNT,” the former president wrote on Truth Social at the time.
Now, Trump has seen a change of luck. CNN confirmed on Thursday that he’ll deliver the final remark in the presidential debate on Jun. 27 after a coin flip with President Joe Biden.
The network allowed the winner to choose either the podium placement or the order of the closing remarks, and Trump chose to speak last.
Both men are running for a second term to finish the job, but Trump will be closing out the debate with the final word.
After winning the coin flip, Biden chose the podium on the right and will appear on the right side of viewers’ T.V. screens.
Trump, despite being a conservative, will appear on the left.
CNN is set to make history with this debate. No incumbent president has competed in a televised debate with an ex-president. In fact, no ex-president has secured his party’s nomination since Grover Cleveland in 1892. Plus, neither of these men has debated anyone on television since 2020, when they debated each other.
Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will host the 90-minute event at 9 p.m. in Atlanta.
Previously, Biden was rumored to be demanding a chair for the debate. However, both candidates have agreed to appear at podiums. They’re prohibited from bringing pre-written flashcards, but each man is allowed a pen and a blank notepad.
Each person will be muted except during his turn to speak.
Trump became notorious for interrupting Biden during 2020’s first debate, but — now that he’ll get the last word — he won’t need to.
