Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stirred controversy this weekend with a bold prediction about the upcoming presidential debate — and was later brutally heckled during a book signing event at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.
During an interview, Pelosi predicted that former President Donald Trump might skip the highly anticipated debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, scheduled for Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
When asked what advice she would give Trump for the debate, the 84-year-old Democrat quipped, “You think he’s gonna show up?”
Pressed further by Swisher, Pelosi — who has continued to use the title “Speaker” — doubled down.
“I know cowardice when I see it,” she claimed. Pelosi then praised former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney’s characterization of Trump as a “misogynist pig.”
The Trump campaign swiftly responded to Pelosi’s remarks, dismissing her wild prediction as “fake news.”
“Nancy Pelosi has no idea what she is talking about and has been proven to be a liar and fraud. If she isn’t busy giving herself fake titles to make herself feel better, she’s peddling fake news because it’s the only thing she’s ever done,” Campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital said.
This exchange is just the latest in a series of public clashes between Pelosi and Trump. Their contentious relationship reached a notable peak in 2020 when Pelosi rudely tore up her copy of Trump’s State of the Union address immediately after he finished speaking to Congress.
In an incident unrelated to the debate prediction, Pelosi was heckled during a book signing for her latest work, “The Art of Power.”
Conservative comedian Alex Strenger approached Pelosi, posing as a Democratic supporter named “Noah.” Wearing a COVID mask and a Bernie Sanders cap, Strenger praised Pelosi for defending democracy before asking her for stock tips.
“Nancy, you’re the greatest options trader of all time,” Strenger said, a joke about the controversy surrounding the Pelosis’ near-miraculous stock trading activities. “What stocks should I buy?”
“The police are an instrumental institution of white supremacy and racism. I don’t understand why they are even here at all. They should be defunded,” Strenger joked as security guards pushed him away.
