Former senior White House aide Donald Trump Jr., spoke to the Washington Examiner in a recent interview.
Of course, he was asked about his father — former President Donald Trump — and his plans for a potential 2024 run.
And what he said stunned some conservative critics.
When asked about it, he kept relatively mum.
“You’ll have to ask him,” he said.
Then he said something surprising.
He was asked who stood out as a potential Republican nominee.
Trump Jr. told the Examiner that another contender has caught his eye for a potential endorsement.
“If I’m going to be totally objective about it, I think, you know, what Ron DeSantis has done in Florida is outstanding.”
“I mean, he didn’t fall for the narrative,” Trump Jr. continued. “I think he’s learned, perhaps through watching [Donald] Trump, you know, what the media will try to do to you if you do take those kinds of stances. I think he’s been proven, you know, virtually 100% correct on those things.”
The former president’s son isn’t the first to tout DeSantis as a potential suitor for a White House bid.
And so while the former president’s son isn’t officially endorsing DeSantis entirely — pundits have noted that his words are very similar to an endorsement if Trump decides not to run in 2024.
He also echoed the words of many critics who suggested that DeSantis could end up serving as Trump’s running mate.
Trump Jr. insists he remains supportive of the Florida governor “whether that’s with my father, whether that’s — if my father doesn’t run — on his own.”
Political website Hot Air also notes an important development that Trump Jr. himself is polling well among other top potential nominees — leading to speculation as to whether he would either run or stand down in 2024.
But for now, Trump Jr. is backing DeSantis as an ally, offering the Florida governor plenty of praise.
Who would you rather see run?
Would you vote for either Donald Trump Jr. or Ron DeSantis?
