Democratic National Committee chairman Ken Martin is under serious fire from fellow Democrats, and could be set to resign in disgrace over the weekend.
Martin spent months refusing to release the Democratic Party’s autopsy on its 2024 election collapse. When he finally did, the document could barely be read.
Under pressure, the DNC chair reversed course Thursday and released the party’s long-delayed report on how and why former View President Kamala Harris lost in a landslide to President Donald Trump.
“I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards,” Martin wrote. He added he “didn’t want to create a distraction. Ironically, in doing so, I ended up creating an even bigger distraction. And for that, I sincerely apologize.”
In true Democratic Party fashion, the document was months late, way over budget, and was never finished.
It had entire sections left blank. Those that were filled out are riddled with corrections and annotations that showed the report was unfinished. The conclusion section, the one part that finally would have answered why Democrats lost, was missing entirely.
The report contained no mention of the Israeli-Hamas war. It failed to mention Biden’s age, mental decline, or his decision to run for reelection at 81 despite these concerns. It didn’t reference Kamala Harris’ unpopular selection of Tim Walz as her running mate.
Democratic strategist Steve Schale blasted the DNC as “an unmitigated s**tshow.”
Former DNC Vice Chair David Hogg, the gun control activist whose own primary-meddling had already caused months of internal chaos, called for Miller to resign.
“It’s clear that Chair Ken Martin has lost the confidence of his staff, supporters, and most importantly, millions of Americans counting on the DNC to help Democrats win up and down the ballot in 2026 and 2028,” Hogg said. “Ken Martin should resign, and the DNC should select a new leader who demonstrates competence, creativity, moral clarity, and a relentless commitment to actually changing the broken Democratic Party brand.”
Former Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer called it damning evidence that the party was completely mismanaged.
“It’s sufficient evidence that he is not the right person to lead the DNC at this time,” Pfeiffer said.
Rep. Mark Veasey, D-Texas, became the first sitting House Democrat to publicly call on Martin to step down.
“There doesn’t seem to be a plan to turn things around and the clock is ticking,” Veasey told Semafor. “November is literally around the corner… I believe it’s time for him to move on.”
The socialist wing was equally furious over the Israeli-Hamas war was left out. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez confronted reporters outside the Capitol.
“I think it’s pretty unbelievable that Gaza would not be mentioned once in the autopsy report,” she said. “I think it was very clearly a major dynamic and a major thread that was happening in 2024 regardless of how one feels about that issue, the fact that it’s not even addressed, I think, is a major oversight.”
Martin has also presided over several anemic fundraising quarters at the DNC since taking the gavel.
November is just six months away.
