Dick Van Dyke, the beloved 98-year-old actor, has been nominated for a historic Daytime Emmy Award for his guest performance as Timothy Robicheaux, an amnesiac character on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives.” Van Dyke’s nomination makes him the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee, surpassing the late producer Norman Lear, who received his final Primetime Emmy nomination in 2022 at the age of 100.
Van Dyke will be competing against several other talented actors, including Australian actor Guy Pearce, who appeared on Amazon Freevee’s “Neighbours.” Throughout his career, Van Dyke has already won four Primetime Emmys, with three of them earned in the 1960s for his iconic comedy series “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”
In other Daytime Emmy news, actor-singer Selena Gomez has been nominated in the culinary series category for her Food Network special “Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays.” Also nominated in this category is “Valerie’s Home Cooking,” a Food Network show hosted by actor Valerie Bertinelli, which concluded last year.
CBS has announced that “The Talk” will be ending after its 15th season later this year. The show’s hosts, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood, have been nominated for the daytime talk series host category.
The lead actress nominees include Tamara Braun from “Days of Our Lives,” Finola Hughes and Cynthia Watros from “General Hospital,” Katherine Kelly Lang and Annika Noelle from “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Michelle Stafford from “The Young and the Restless.”
The lead actor nominees are Eric Braeden from “The Young and the Restless,” Scott Clifton, Thorsten Kaye, and John McCook from “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Eric Martsolf from “Days of Our Lives.”
The Daytime Emmys will be presented on June 7 in Los Angeles and will air live on CBS. The award show is returning to its usual schedule after being postponed until last December due to strikes by Hollywood actors and writers. The hosts and Lifetime Achievement honorees will be announced at a later date.
