One of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s political rivals detailed exactly how she fell during an international trip last week.
The 84-year-old career politician was rushed to the hospital after the dangerous fall which broke her hip, Rep. Michael McCaul, R-T.X., revealed Tuesday.
McCaul, who witnessed Pelosi’s fall in Luxembourg, said that Pelosi lost her balance on a marble step while wearing high heels, causing her to fall and be hospitalized over the break.
Pelosi underwent successful hip replacement surgery and is currently in recovery from the medical procedure in Germany.
“[Pelosi] is doing well. She had a hip replacement. I was right next to her, she likes to wear high heels, very high,” McCaul said. “She was on one of her last steps on this marble staircase that didn’t have a railing and she lost her footing and fell to the ground. I immediately helped pick her up and we took a picture after that, you can see me holding her up by her hand, and very soon thereafter a vehicle picked her up and she was taken to the hospital. I wish her a speedy recovery.”

Pelosi traveled to Luxembourg as part of a bipartisan delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, according to Pelosi’s spokesperson Ian Krager.
Her hospitalization followed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s fall during a Republican lunch at the U.S. Capitol on Dec. 10. It was the latest of McConnell, 82, health issues, and caused a sprained wrist and cut on his face.
