DeSantis destroys talk show The View

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., received an invitation to go on ABC’s The View, Deputy Press Secretary Bryan Griffin announced Monday.

DeSantis turned it down. “We will pass on this offer,” Deputy Press Secretary Griffin wrote in a blistering statement.

But some of the governor’s supporters were divided on his decision not to go on The View.

Some conservatives wanted to see DeSantis clash with the liberal hosts. “I would have loved to see this,” one Twitter user said, along with a laugh-cry emoji.

“He would have made those cows look really stupid,” another added.

On the other hand, some conservatives praised DeSantis for declining ABC’s invitation. They encouraged him to spend his time on his re-election campaign in Florida instead of jetting to New York for a talk show.

“DeSantis is running for FL Gov at this time,” one observer tweeted. “He doesn’t need to do a third rate show out of NYC where he has no control. You can make anybody look bad on TV.”

Some DeSantis supporters predicted the liberal ABC News hosts would treat DeSantis unfairly.

“They’ve never been fair to a single conservative they’ve had on,” one Twitter user said. “I don’t know why the Governor would spare his time for them. That’s just me.”

“I just don’t think anyone that watches this show would ever vote for Big D anyway,” another added.

Sure enough, the governor’s office tweeted a list of the host’s old comments about DeSantis… and some of them aren’t flattering.

The hosts went beyond slamming the governor’s policies. They hurled bald-faced insults at him.

“Death-Santis,” co-host Sunny Hostin reportedly said on air last year. “I think he’s a fascist and a bigot.”

Co-host Joy Behar went a step further. She smeared the governor’s base as a bunch of racists, according to Griffin.

“You’re just short of calling [DeSantis] a negligent, homicidal sociopath, because that’s what he is,” Behar reportedly said on air. “He’s risking the lives of children, children’s parents, their grandparents, anyone they may come into contact with, so he can appeal to his white supremacist base.”

Take a look —

.@TheView emailed our office on Friday asking for us to arrange an appearance from Governor DeSantis on the show. "We would be honored," they wrote.

In any case, The View is shopping for conservative voices.

Former co-host Meghan McCain — daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and a political moderate — left The View after feuding with the show’s more liberal co-hosts.

Alyssa Farrah Griffin, a onetime aide to former President Donald Trump, is reportedly finishing talks to join the program as a permanent co-host, although she has faced criticism for disavowing Trump.

Meanwhile, Elisabeth Hasselbeck — the show’s token “conservative” co-host from 2003 to 2013 — appeared on Wednesday’s show as a guest.

What do you think?

Should DeSantis have gone on The View?
