House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. has revealed that talks are underway to send a second “Trump Check” to American taxpayers.
After what was a bipartisan success with the first round of stimulus checks, negotiated by Congress and signed by President Donald Trump, Democrats are drafting up a proposal to send another round of check in Trump’s name.
But there’s a catch.
According to Fox News reporting, Pelosi says that the bill will aim to deliver money to local and state governments and bolster testing around the country.
But she’s demanding Republicans also pay for Democrat-led pet projects.
“Democrats privately admit the expansive legislation is more of a policy wishlist than anything … ” wrote Politico journalists Heather Caygle and Sarah Ferris.
Pelosi herself even admitted Monday to CNN, “Whether it’s access to credit or access to care, we want to be sure that — as sad as this all is — that we make progress.”
In other words, liberals aren’t negotiating… they simply have a list of demands.
“In addition to putting money in people’s pockets,” she told reporters on Capitol Hill, “direct payments. Unemployment insurance, some other tax credits, etc. – we really also need to put food on the table … ”
“We have to have SNAP,” Pelosi added, referring to the food stamp program.
In Congress, Republican lawmakers say they are wary.
They argue that Congress just passed a $3 trillion deal.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. is adopting a patient approach to ensure that the funding from previous bills has been correctly spent before signing up for more spending.
“I’m not saying there’s not going to be another bill,” McCarthy said. “You just passed $3 trillion. You want to make sure that’s implemented and implemented correctly.”
Despite Republican worries, Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. are forging ahead with a wishlist they say “thinks big.”
