Democrat-run Chicago has lost nearly 250 criminals enrolled in its woke electronic ankle monitoring program.
One of the criminals they let walk free just killed a police officer in cold blood.
Cook County Chief Judge Charles Beach II confirmed Wednesday that 8% of the more than 3,000 people currently enrolled in the county’s ankle monitoring program are missing.
Among those still accounted for: 21 people charged with murder, 13 charged with attempted murder, 173 charged with aggravated battery, and 29 charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke, a Democrat, admitted the numbers are alarming.
“We should all be deeply concerned that hundreds of defendants placed on electronic monitoring are unaccounted for,” Burke said. “This creates the potential for more violence, more victims, more fear and heartache in our community.”
The number hide the real human cost behind the release of these criminals.
Despite facing four pending violent felony charges, Alphanso Talley, 26, a seven-time convicted felon, was released on electronic monitoring in December 2025 by an activist judge.
Just months later, in early March, Talley violated his ankle monitor curfew, then allowed the battery to die. Despite an arrest warrant, he was never detained by police.
On April 25, Talley claimed to have swallowed five bags of drugs and was taken to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital. When officers uncuffed him to conduct a CT scan, he reportedly reached under a blanket, pulled out the same gun he had used in the earlier armed robbery, and shot Officer John Bartholomew in the head. Bartholomew’s partner was shot in the chin.
Talley robbed a hospital employee of his ID badge, shot out the glass hospital doors, and ran outside nearly naked… but still wearing his dead ankle monitor. He was later arrested.
Bartholomew was pronounced dead. He was 37 years old.
Chicago Police Union president John Catanzara said Bartholomew would be alive without the Democrat-backed SAFE-T Act, the 2021 woke criminal justice reform that eliminated cash bail in Illinois.
Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker refused to take responsibility, and blamed the judge instead of the law he signed.
“What played a role here was that the judge who had the ability to keep the person in jail didn’t,” Pritzker said.
Republicans have now filed bills in both the Illinois House and Senate to immediately revoke the pretrial release of anyone on electronic monitoring who commits a new felony.
“The question is no longer if reform is needed. It’s how many more tragedies need to happen before action is taken?” House Republican Leader Tony McCombie asked.
